CHICOPEE- Lionel Julio, 50, of Chicopee and formerly of Cambridge and Charlestown, MA, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 23, 2009 after a long battle with MS. He was born in Springfield on December 11, 1958, a son of Purificacao “Penny” (Ribeiro) Julio and the late Joaquim “Jack” Julio who passed away on April 14, 2007. Lionel graduated from Chicopee High School in 1977, received his BA in Fine Arts and BS in Civil Engineering from Tufts University in 1981, and his MA in Architecture from Syracuse University in 1984. He was a Development Analyst for the State of Massachusetts Division of Private Housing. Lionel spent much of his career in the affordable housing industry. He enjoyed snow skiing, the beach, and reading, and was an accomplished singer. Lionel was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee. He always kept a positive outlook on life, even until the time of his passing. Lionel is survived by his mother, Penny (Ribeiro) Julio of Springfield; a brother, Dennis Julio and his wife Jennifer of Fairfield, CT; a niece and a nephew, Abigail and Adam Julio; his godparents, Susan and Bill Marino of Springfield; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends in Boston. Funeral services are Thursday August 27th beginning at 9 a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church, 319 Broadway, with Rites of Committal and burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Hampden St., all in Chicopee. Lionel’s family will receive relatives and friends at the visiting hours on Wednesday, August 26th from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
