SPRINGFIELD-Paul Hallett, 83, of 44 Melville Street in Springfield passed away peacefully on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2017, at Chicopee Gardens. Paul was born in Springfield on May 9, 1934 and had resided all his life on Melville Street in the family home. He was educated in local schools and graduated from the former Springfield Trade High School.  He entered the US Air Force in October 1954, serving with the 2ND Air Force, 308th Field Maintenance Squadron in the Strategic Air Corp (SAC). He served until 1958 and returned to Springfield in July of that year.  He began a long career with Smith & Wesson as a Gunsmith, Tester and later as Inspector before retiring. He was an avid bowler and spent many years with at Fairview Lanes bowling with the Saturday Night Mixed League. He enjoyed his retirement and his many friends from Smith & Wesson would get together for a weekly coffee gathering until his health forced him to stop going. Paul was predeceased by his mother, Bessie Hallett Phillips and his stepfather, John Phillips.  He leaves his many friends at Smith & Wesson. He also leaves his good friends, neighbors and caregivers Shirley and John Powloka who were always there for Paul. There are no calling hours. His friends are invited to his burial service with military honors on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Spfld. Donations in Paul’s memory may be made to the American Heart Association. The family has entrusted Tylunas Funeral Home of Chicopee with Paul’s care and services.
