CHELMSFORD-Thelma Florence Miffitt, 96, formerly of Springfield and Holyoke, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Chelmsford Crossing Assisted Living. Born in Holyoke on February 3, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Clifford & Clarina (Blanchette) Lemieux. She was raised and educated in Holyoke. She was the devoted wife of the late Charles Miffitt with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. After their marriage they settled in Springfield where they started their family. Thelma worked at Mass Mutual Life Insurance and retired in 1985 from Monarch Life Insurance. During her many years in Springfield she was a communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna Church. She enjoyed her friends and activities at Chelmsford Crossing, especially the musical entertainment. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she was always ready to join in family get-togethers and celebrations. Thelma leaves her sons; Donald C. Miffitt and his wife Marcella of Chelmsford and Gary T. Miffitt and his wife Kathy Riccillo of Springfield. She also leaves five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition she leaves her special friend and sister-in-law Mabel Lemieux of Southwick. She was predeceased by her siblings Donald, Norman and Clifford Lemieux, Alice Hrobak, Claire Ackerly and Anita Tremblay. Calling hours at the Tylunas Funeral Home (159 Broadway St., Chicopee) will be Friday morning from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at St. Catherine of Sienna Church ( 1023 Parker St., Springfield) at 11:30 a.m. Burial at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam will be private. Donations in Thelma’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
