SPRINGFIELD-Wayne W. “Skipper” Willetz, 72, of Glenmore St. in Springfield passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield after a brief illness. Skipper was born in Springfield on May 27, 1945 the son of the late William & Edith (Bousquet) Willetz. He was raised in Chicopee on Curtis Drive with his beloved Mom and brothers and sisters. He attended grade schools here in the city and graduated from Chicopee High School. Skipper furthered his education, receiving Degrees in History and political Science from both Springfield Technical Community College and American international College. Hetaught History and Business at UMass/Amherst and later in Pittsfield and Bangor, Maine. He moved to Florida in the 1970’s and owned and operated a successful chain of stores, Image Maker Signs & Graphics for many years before retiring and moving back to the area in 2016. Skipper loved his time in Florida, living there over 40 years and making many lifelong friends. He enjoyed spending time with his “Florida Family”. He loved to travel, especially Europe, and trips to Colorado skiing with family and friends. Skipper was also an avid History buff, having taught History when he was a Professor. Skipper leaves his loving sisters; Priscilla Martin of Springfield and Crystal Beauregard of Waldorf, MD. and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings; Howard R. Bratcher, Adrian M. Bratcher, Shirley Anastasio and Chloe Hitch. At Skipper’s request all services will be private with burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery in Springfield.
