Adam V. Batakis 1923 ~ 2008 Holyoke - Adam V. Batakis, 84, of Chicopee, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2008 in HolyokeMedicalCenter. He was born in Brockton, MA., on December 17, 1923, a son of the late Alexander and Kazimera (Labutaite) Batakis. Adam proudly served our country in the Korean Conflict, in the United States Air Force. He retired in 1970 as a Master Sergeant, after twenty-one years of service. After his retirement from the United States Air Force, he was employed as Director of Food Service at the Providence Hospital in Holyoke from 1970-1988. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Chicopee, and a member of the Korean War Veteran's Association, as well as the American Legion. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one brother, Alexander Batakis. He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-seven years, Virginia A. (Smolka) Batakis of Chicopee, five devoted children, Anthony Batakis and his wife Faye Fentin both of San Diego, California., Edward Batakis of Monument, Colorado, Joseph Batakis of West Springfield, Catherine Chapman and her husband David both of Agawam, and Mary Sproul of Booth Bay, Maine., one brother, Alphonse Batakis and his wife Josephine both of Peabody, MA., and a sister -in-law, Yvonne Batakis, and he leaves eight cherished grandchildren, Karen, Joanne, Jeffrey, Julia, Adam, Nicole, Erica, and Danielle, and two great-grandchildren, Rudy and Vincent. Mr. Batakis's funeral will be held on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 11:30A.M. from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 319 Broadway, in Chicopee. Followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30 in St. Patrick's Church in Chicopee. Burial will be held on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 10A.M. in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, in Agawam. Family and friends are invited to the calling hours on Thursday, September 25, 2008 from 4P.M. - 7 P. M. at the funeral home.
