Alexander M. Lagodich 1918 - 2004 SPRINGFIELD-Alexander M. "Al" Lagodich, 85, retired Springfield Police Officer, died Wednesday in Mercy Hospital, Springfield, surrounded by his loving family. Born and educated in Springfield, Al was a life long resident here and a 1936 graduate of Springfield Technical High School. Al joined the Springfield Police Department in 1942 and retired in 1983 wearing Badge #1 after 42 years as a Police officer. He was a devoted family man, a communicant of Holy Name Church, a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Al leaves his wife of 56 years, the former Lucie M. Cardin, Sons Thomas A. Lagodich of West Springfield, James M. Lagodich of Wilbraham, and daughters Joanne M. Gamache of Naperville, Illinois, Marie L. Cassetta of Westfield, and Theresa L. Conway of East Longmeadow. Al leaves a sister Olga Mucha of Bloomfield CT., and grandchildren Ryan, Taylor, Caitlin, Alexander, and Tessa. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 3-7 PM at the Forastiere-Smith Funeral Home, 220 North Main St., East Longmeadow.  Al?s funeral and burial in the Massachusetts Memorial Veteran's Cemetery, Agawam will be private.
