Bernice A. Lemay, 96, formerly of Frontenac Street in Chicopee passed away peacefully on Sunday evening at Wingate of South Hadley. Bernice was born in Chicopee on February 5, 1921 the daughter of the late George and Una (Monat) Varin. She was a lifelong resident of the city, was educated in local schools and graduated from Chicopee High School. Bernice worked for Uniroyal Tire for many years before retiring. Bernice was a communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. She was very active with the Chicopee Women's club and an avid Bridge Player and member of the Bridge club at the Chicopee Senior Center. Her husband, Kenneth Lemay predeceased her. She leaves her Godson and his wife, William and Denise Kennedy who were her caregivers in her later years. She also leaves her dear sister in law, Corinne Lemay of South Hadley and several cousins throughout the area. Calling hours will be held Friday morning at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial at Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd, Springfield at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Matthew Alcombright, Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Chicopee.
