Carol K. Murchie 1933 - 2009 SPRINGFIELD - Carol K. (Kinsley) Murchie, died peacefully surrounded by her children on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. She was born on December 24, 1933, in Norwalk, CT. and spent most of her life in the Springfield area. She graduated from the Northfield - Mount Herman School in 1951. She received her BA from Connecticut College and her MA in English from Yale University. She was a Fulbright Fellow, working as a teacher in Hamburg, Germany. She spent her career as a teacher and an educator, working at the MacDuffie School for many years in many capacities. She had a rich and busy retirement, working as a docent at the Springfield Museums, most recently at the Museum of Springfield History, and as a volunteer in the Springfield public schools. She loved gardening, and spent many happy hours cultivating beautiful and bountiful gardens. She was very active in the alumni associations of both Northfield and Connecticut College, serving as class officer for both institutions. She was a faithful congregant at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Springfield, where she served as a lector. She is survived by her brother, Harry, her sister, Alice, her four children Douglas, Alan, Alison and Stewart, her daughter in law, Leah, her very much adored grandchildren, Gus, Sophie and Alice, and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 18th at 11 A.M. in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 931 St. James Ave., Springfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carol's memory to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 931 St. James Ave., Springfield, MA 01104.
