Charles William Mackechnie

March 23, 1932 — October 7, 2005

Charles W. Mackechnie 1932-2005 Harwich, MA - Charles William Mackechnie, 73, a resident of this town, and formerly of Chicopee, passed from this life Friday October 7, 2005 at his home.  Charles was born March 23, 1932 in Springfield to the late Charles W. and Williamina (Maxwell) Mackechnie.  Mr. Mackechnie attended the Bryant-Stratton School of Business for two years, then entered the United States Army during the Korean War.  While in the service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.  After his service to our country, he went to American International College for two years.  Charles then went on to work for New England Telephone, where he worked for 40 years, until his retirement in 1995.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #275, and The Order Of Scottish Clans, Clan Bruce #216 having served a term as Chief.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Gretchen Ann (Torno) Mackechnie.  His devoted children, Scott M. Mackechnie and his wife Kathy of Montgomery, MA, Bonnie Rotondo and her husband Joseph of Glastonbury, CT, a caring brother, William Mackechnie of Boca Raton, FL, and five cherished grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Hiorns.  The funeral will be held Monday morning at 11a.m. at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee MA.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9p.m.  Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to either Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod Inc., 270 Communications Way, Hyannis, MA 02601 or the Compassionate Care ALS, P.O.
