CHICOPEE-David J Luppi, 81, passed away peacefully at home with family on Sunday, January 22, 2023. David was born in Springfield, a son of the late Henry J. & Catherine (Leary) Luppi. David attended Chicopee schools and after joining the Army was sent to Ft. Dix for training. He served in New Ulm Germany with the 4th Armour Division for two years, returning home for a short time before being sent to Ft. Meade Maryland in the 11th Armour Cavalry where he was assigned as a prison guard. He was sent to Vietnam in 1966 where served in Bien Hoa in the 11th Army Cavalry Regt. L-Troop. He was honorably discharged, returning home in 1966. David was employed by Standard Times for 10 years, Smith and Wesson for 25 years and Laidlaw Bus Co. as a school bus driver for 5 years. David was a lifetime member of Chapter 111 D. A. V. and both the American Legion and VFW. David was also very active in flying radio-controlled planes with the club S.P.A.R.K.S in the Spfld area. Radio Controllers is where he spent many hours building his planes. David enjoyed traveling with camper in tow. He hit the road with his wife, Theresa and two teacup chihuahuas. David leaves his wife Theresa A. (Lavoie) Luppi of Chicopee. His children; son David Luppi and wife Jackie of Indiana, daughter Marie (Jeff) Destromp of Holyoke, and son John Luppi of Holyoke. He also leaves two stepdaughters: Michelle (Durand) Smith and her husband Rodney A Smith of Philadelphia PA and Rebecca Durand of Agawam. His nine beloved grandchildren: Jeff Jr and wife Maria, Sara, Emily and Ryan Destromp all of Holyoke Ma., John Luppi Jr of Westfield MA, Gabriel and Violet Luppi of Holyoke, Donavon and Joshua Smith of Philadelphia PA and three great grandchildren: Arissa Smith of Philadelphia Pa, Emma Destromp and Eden Ocasio of Holyoke. His dear sister Carol Pino and her husband Paul of Belchertown and several nieces and nephews. David is predeceased by several siblings: Henry Luppi of Florida, Mary Barrett of Chicopee Ma and Lois Allen of Holyoke Ma. The family would like to thank Athena Hospice and David’s nurses; Marianne, Pamela, Natalia and Yvonne and his aide, Kate for the wonderful care, and dignity they showed David.
