INDIAN ORCHARD-Donald M. Ashton, 79, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield passed away at BSMC on Monday, August 30, 2021. Donald "Goose", was born in Lewiston, Maine, a son of the late Stanley and Mary L. (Hennessy) Ashton. He was raised and educated in Maine, attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School. Donald was employed at Appleton Security in Holyoke for many years and had previously worked at Springfield Museums and Smith & Wesson. He also worked for a number of years for Pete's Tire Barn in Orange. Goose enjoyed playing Golf. He enjoyed watching baseball and was a Yankees fan. He relished playing craps at MGM, the Kentucky Derby and football (especially winning on the Square pools). He loved his family and spending time at family gatherings. Donald was sadly predeceased by an infant daughter, Karen in 1965 and a daughter, Donna Hutchinson in 2016. Goose leaves his beloved wife of 56 years; Claire (Richard) Ashton. His devoted daughters; Brenda Sylvester and husband David of Orange, Maureen Johnson and husband Opie of Erving and Susan Ashton of Indian Orchard. His cherished grandchildren, Daryl, Sarah, Katie, Ashley, Devin and Jessica. Great Grandchildren, Justin, Kendra, Chloe, Dannielle, Penelope, Adalynn, Henry, and Rosalie. He also leaves his dear brother and sister; Ernie Ashton of Lewiston, ME. and Barbara Annear of Auburn, ME., several nieces and nephews and many special cousins; Diana, Val and Steve.
A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be at the Brickhouse Tavern, Indian Orchard on Sunday, September 12, 2021 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
At Goose's request he will be cremated and interment will be private in Maine.
