SPRINGFIELD-Dorothy M. Colapinto, 91, of Lawton Street in Springfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born on March 11, 1929, a daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Counihan) Hood. She was raised and educated in Springfield and graduated from the High School of Commerce. Dorothy worked as a Secretary for Massachusetts Mutual, at Buxton Wallet and in Retail Sales. She was married to Daniel P. Colapinto on May 15, 1954 and they settled in Springfield. Dorothy was a communicant of Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Springfield. In her spare time she enjoyed crafting, crocheting and especially loved shopping. Her beloved husband of 50 years, Daniel P. Colapinto passed away on April 29, 2004 and her two brothers, William and Jack Hood also predeceased her. The most important joy in Dorothy's life was her family, whom she leaves to forever cherish her memory: Her devoted children; David Colapinto of Washington, D.C. and Donna Haggins and her husband Peter of Springfield. Two cherished grandchildren; Brian Haggins and s.o. Alison Young, and Erica Morin and her husband Jay, four great grandchildren; Maximus, Ryan, Justin, and Billy and s.o. Stephanie, and a great-great grandson, Oliver. She also leaves her dear sister, Mary Lou Newton of Springfield and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family invites you to join them for calling hours at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. A service will be held at Tylunas Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fuller Rd., Chicopee. The family wishes to thank the health aides and nurses at Mary's Meadow at Providence Place and Kind Hands Care at Home who helped Dorothy.
