Eileen W. Hough

Eileen W. "Shorty" Hough 1921 - 2010 CHICOPEE - Eileen W. Hough, 88, died Friday, May 21, 2010 at Holyoke Medical Center. She was the 15th child born in Easthampton to the late John H. and Delia (Gonyea) Hough on September 3, 1921. Eileen attended schools in Chicopee and graduated from Chicopee High School. She resided in the Aldenville section of Chicopee for more than 40 years and was a parishioner of the former St. Patrick's and St. George churches. She worked for Savage Arms in Westfield where she served as President of the Office Union for 13 years. Eileen left in 1962 to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. She earned a B.S. in Education from Westfield State College in 1966 and went on to teach second grade at Bowie Elementary School in Chicopee. Later, she taught library science to elementary school children and was responsible for all the elementary school libraries within the Chicopee school system. She retired in 1978. Eileen was a role model to the young, a source of strength to her family and a loyal friend to her peers. She will be deeply missed. She leaves many extended family members and friends to cherish her memory, including Deborah Long of Holyoke and Michael Hough of South Hadley. Eileen will be buried at St. Rose de Lima Cemetery following a 10:00 a.m. service at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, on Wednesday, May 26.
