Eleanor M. Sheehan

Eleanor M. Sheehan 1917-2010 Eleanor M. Sheehan, died on November 26, 2010 at home while in the loving care of her family. She was the widow of John P. Sheehan, Jr., with whom she had shared more than 65 years of loving marriage.  She was born in Springfield on November 16, 1917, the daughter of Marguerite (Lynch) and Oswald A. Savaria.  Eleanor was a graduate of Holy Name High School (`35) and Bridgewater State Teachers College (`39) and earned two Master Degrees at Springfield College and Westfield State College.  One of her loves of her life was teaching and between and after her children she taught for more than 20 years in the Chicopee Public Schools and then served as a reading specialist well into her 70s, at St. Patrick's School.  All of those whom she taught were loved and respected by her. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, the former Oxford Country Club of Chicopee, the Tekoa Country Club of Westfield and the Ironwood Country Club of Naples, FL.  Eleanor was predeceased by her brother Jerome Savaria and her sister Marguerite Condon.  She is survived by her much beloved sister, Madeline Kelly of Indiatlantic, FL and her eight children; John Sheehan of Chicopee, Michael Sheehan of Hamden, CT and his wife Denise Saldana, Mary Ellen Coyne of Blackstone and her husband Dennis, Teresa Dion of Brockton and her husband John, Robert Sheehan of Myrtle Beach, S. C. and his wife Heather, Marguerite Sheehan of Amherst and her wife Dorothy Merriam, Stephen Sheehan of Charlestown, RI and his wife Lynn and Monica Susskind of Northampton and her husband Bob.  Eleanor also leaves her 22 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  She will reside in their hearts forever.  There will be a funeral mass held for Mrs. Sheehan at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the chapel of Holy Name Church, Chicopee.  Rites of Committal will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.  Arrangements entrusted to the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, MA.  The family is grateful for the help of Life Care Hospice of Holyoke.  Memorial contributions may be sent to the hospice.
