Elizabeth A. Wescott 1928-2012 SPRINGFIELD- Elizabeth Ann (Leavitt) Wescott, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 25, 2012 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Hartford, CT on April 29, 1928 the only daughter of Melvin and Violet (Shannon) Leavitt. Betty moved to Springfield in her youth attending Brookings Elementary and Cathedral High. In the sixth grade she met her future husband, Howard Wescott; they were married on 11/13/48 at St. Michael's Cathedral and recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary with a family brunch. Betty truly enjoyed caring for her family and was so proud of her children and grandchildren. She truly was a wonderful mother. Her door was always open and everyone was always welcome. She made you feel better with a cup of tea or a big hug that made all your troubles seem small. Betty will forever be missed by Howard and her four daughters, Diane Adams and her husband Tom of Ludlow, Gail Messier and her husband Gary of Chicopee, Susan Wescott-Rivard of Chicopee and Linda Docherty and her husband William of Springfield. Her niece Cheryl McCollum of Springfield who was like a daughter to her and her lifelong friend Patricia Bouthillier and her husband Paul of South Hadley. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son-in-law Jules Rivard Jr. Nong will live on in the hearts of her 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 30th beginning at 9 a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd., East Springfield. Rites of Committal and burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 985 Parker St., Springfield. Betty's family will receive relatives and friends at the gathering on Sunday, January 29th from 3-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
