Ernest J. Robbins 1927-2012 Springfield- Ernest "Bud" J. Robbins, 84, a longtime resident of Hungry Hill, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 3, 2012. He was born in Keene, NH, on July 18, 1927, a son of the late Ernest and Sarah (Hodgkins) Robbins. Bud was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Hope Church, Springfield. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. Bud retired from Pratt & Whitney after 40 years of service. He coached baseball for many years for the Van Horn Athletic Association, and was an avid fisherman and golfer. Bud was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret "Peggy" M. (McDonald) Robbins on October 20, 2006; a son, Stephen Robbins; a brother, Robert Robbins; and a sister, Mary Ann Mickalian. He is survived by his three children, Kenneth Robbins and his wife Nancy, Kevin Robbins and his wife Lori, and Nancy Robbins, all of Springfield; six grandchildren, Jonathan and his wife Melissa, Patrick, Kathleen, Kerry Ann, Kady, and Kristi; three great grandchildren, Kristen, Jackson and Jonathan Jr.; a sister-in-law, Alice Billips of Chicopee; and a brother-in-law, Edward McDonald of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 7th beginning at 9 a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut St., with Rites of Committal to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, 1601 State St., both in Springfield. Bud's family will receive relatives and friends at the visitation on Tuesday, March 6th from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bud's memory to Mercy Hospice, 1236 Main St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
