Eufigenia Sousa Rego

Eufigenia Rego 1933 - 2010   Chicopee - Mrs. Eufigenia (Silva) Rego, 77, a longtime Chicopee resident, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 31.  She was born in Sao Miguel, Azores Islands, Portugal on March 14, 1933, a daughter of the late Lucas and Maria (Sousa) Silva.  She was a graduate of Sao Miguel schools and was a seamstress for many years at the former Gemini Co.  She loved cooking for her beloved family, tending her rose garden, and taking care of birds.  She is survived by two sons, David of Portland, CT, and Mark and his companion Denise Heath of Chicopee, three daughters, Mary Vanwert and her husband Larry of Chicopee, Christine Diehl and her husband Richard of Dover, Delaware, and Laurie Cote of Chicopee.  She also leaves her sister, Eulalia Lopes of California, two grandchildren, Matthew Diehl and Nicole Laird, and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Lucas, Arthur, and Isaac, and two sisters, Mary Lourdes Rebello, and Elzira DeSousa.  Funeral services are Monday, April 5 from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, with a period of visitation from 9 to 10am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Rose de Lima Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
