Eugene E. Mort

Eugene E. Mort 1935-2009   Eugene E. Mort, 74, of Chicopee, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in Baystate Medical Center.  Born in Twin Oaks, PA and a long time Chicopee resident, he was the son of the late Fred and Anna (Pasco) Mort.  Eugene was a retired Staff Sergeant of the U. S. Air Force.  A Vietnam veteran, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service and retired from Plattsburgh AFB in 1976.  Following his military retirement, he was employed for several years at Texon in Russell.  Eugene enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He was especially fond of gardening and spent countless hours in his backyard.  He was "Mr. Fix-It" and lent a hand to any one who needed help.  He loved to cook and eat with a particular penchant for the Chinese buffet.  Eugene was an avid sports enthusiast with football and the Pittsburg Steelers as his favorite team.  He was a member of the Moose Family Center of Chicopee.  Eugene leaves his wife of 40 years, Margaret M. (Asselin) Mort; a son, Bryan Mort and wife Susan of Pinckney, MI; a daughter, Donna Kilgore and husband Donald of Key West, FL; four step-sons, Dominick Bertolasio, Daniel Bertolasio and wife Donna, John Bertolasio, Anthony Bertolasio and wife Penny all of Chicopee; a step-daughter, Debra Strom and husband John of Chicopee; a brother, Edward Mort and wife Maryann of DE, two sisters, Evelyn Mucha and Donna Stephens both of PA; (15) grandchildren; (5) great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by his brothers, Fred Mort of PA, Raymond Mort of FL and his sisters, Ruth Whitney of NY and Edith Hribar of PA.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 7, 2009 from the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee at 9 a.m., followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Church 33 South St., Chicopee at 10 a.m.  Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Springfield.  Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m.  Memorial contributions in Eugene's memory may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Attn: Gift Processing, P. O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
