Gerard George Parent, 89, of Chicopee, MA, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, after living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years. He was born on December 21, 1934, in Chicopee, the youngest of 10 children born to the late Louis J. and Alda (Surprenant) Parent. Gerry graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield and then served in the National Guard for eight years while working and going to school at night to earn an Engineering degree from Western New England College. Gerry married Patricia (Pat) Yemenijian in 1958, and they settled in Chicopee to raise their family and share a long and loving life together.
Gerry had a distinguished career in manufacturing engineering, culminating in almost 30 years at Smith & Wesson in Springfield. Outside of work, Gerry looked forward to his weekly bowling and golf leagues, was a life-long New England sports fan, and listened to countless audiobooks while working out at the gym and puttering around his yard. He loved traveling with his family, and especially cherished the summer road trips he and Pat took with their young children, and later, the riverboat cruises they enjoyed throughout the US and Europe. Above all, Gerry adored spending time with his family, and they will best remember him as an incredibly kind, patient, and gentle man, who could be counted on for a well-timed “dad joke” in any situation.
Gerry is predeceased by his precious wife, Patricia Parent, his parents, and his siblings: Theresa Soucy, Juliette Quenneville, Claire Landry, Leona Rivest, Sr. Alice Parent, Estelle Kindness, Cecile Loughman, Marcelle Parent, and John L. Parent. He is survived by his devoted children: Lisa Falotico, and her husband Robert; Christopher Parent; and Nicole Perrault and her husband, Michael. Gerry is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, plus his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren: Alison Nicolas and her husband Eric, along with their sons, Oliver and Vincent; Corinne Schlaht and her husband Peter; and Harrison Perrault and his fiancé Kalli Richmond.
The family would like to thank the staff at Keystone Commons in Ludlow for the tender care they gave to Gerry.
