Gertrude Galway

SPRINGFIELD-Gertrude (Long) Galway, 95, of Grochmal Avenue in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield passed away very peacefully at East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing on Wednesday evening, January 10, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.  Gertrude was born in Gloversville, N.Y. on January 28, 1922, a daughter of the late Fredrick and Maude (Countryman) Long. She was raised and educated in New York, attended local schools and graduated from Gloversville High School. Gertrude married her husband, William J. Galway Sr. and they moved to the Springfield area to raise their family. Gertrude was a proud mom, staying home to raise her family, a full time job in itself, and was always there to provide for them. Her beloved husband of 59 years, William J. Galway Sr. passed away on June 4, 2009. She leaves her loving children; Gloria Mason of Palmer, Janet Boles of Amsterdam, NY., Linda Stenberg of Springfield, Donna Allen of Agawam, Bill Galway of Springfield, Judy Gagne of Florida and Rick Galway of Springfield, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 16 great, great grandchildren. Gertrude was predeceased by her three sisters and one brother. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews and her many dear friends from Grochmal Avenue. Calling hours for Gertrude will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., from 1 to 2:15 p.m. A Procession will depart at 2:30 p.m. for Interment services at 3:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, Mass. 01001.
