Henry Leonard Dubay Sr.

CHICOPEE-Henry L. Dubay Sr., 93, of Rochester Street passed away peacefully in the care and love of his family on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 in Westfield. Henry or Hank as family and friends knew him as, was born in Amherst on February 21, 1927. He grew up in Orange, MA., attending schools there including the Central School. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving as a Seaman aboard the USS Oakland, USS Hopewell and the USS Micka. Henry was aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when the United States accepted the Japanese surrender signaling the end of World War II.  He received the World War II Victory medal, American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal with one Battle Star. He returned home in 1946 where he met and married the love of his life, Mildred Pierce in 1947. Hank worked for the W.H. Fenton and the city of Westfield as a Mechanic, at Fox & Jacob as an equipment operator and finally the City of Plano as a Street Foreman prior to his retirement. Henry and Mildred moved to Chicopee in 1998 to be closer to family. He was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 69 in Chicopee and member of the American Legion Post 275 in Chicopee. He was a devoted communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield, serving as a Eucharist minister and Alter server. Hank leaves his beloved wife of 72 years, Mildred (Pierce) Dubay. His devoted children; Henry Dubay Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Westfield, Jamie Dubay of Huntington,  Cheryl Denis of West Springfield and her late husband Keith Denis, Teresa Orlandi of Westfield and her late husband Charles "Chuck Orlandi and Lisa Despard and her husband Keith  of West Springfield, his six cherished grandchildren  and nine cherished great grandchildren. He was sadly predeceased by his beloved parents and all his siblings. Calling hours at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee will be Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Mary Mother of Hope, Page Blvd., Springfield at 11:00 a.m. Henry will be laid to rest with full Naval Honors at 1:00 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam.
