Herbert A. Stocking Iii

Herbert Anson Stocking III, 44, known to all as Bert Stocking, passed away suddenly at home in Chicopee MA on Friday, March 18, 2022.  He was born in Lynn MA on November 23, 1977.  Bert was raised in Topsfield MA, graduated from Masconomet HS and attended University of Massachusetts.

In his youth, Bert was a competitive swimmer on a coached team at age 6, winning numerous meet events, highlighted by the New England 8 and under overall championship in 1985.  He fondly remembered a 3 month summer trip camping and hiking in the Rocky Mountains with his father in 1987.  He loved being out in the elements; winter camping became a favorite activity following a Yosemite trip with sister Marybeth and his dad in December 1992.

Bert worked construction as a carpenter and particularly liked timber framing. Another favorite project was the construction of musical stages; there are a handful of them around the Seacoast NH area that he helped design and build that are frequently used. He enjoyed cookout parties with family and friends.  He loved music and concerts, especially attending Phish concerts with his sister Marybeth.

Bert is survived by his daughters Maryann Nancy Stocking and Charlotte Ann Stocking, their mother, Cynthia Lombardi of Chicopee MA; his mother Mary Ruth Stocking and partner John Day of Villas NJ, his father Herbert Stocking and wife Yvonne Crowley of Oxford CT; his sister Marybeth Stocking and partner Jordan Pike of Springvale ME; aunt Barbara Maltby and wife Patricia Waterman of Burlington VT, aunt Linda Greenwood and husband Paul Greenwood of Vernon Hill VA, aunt Nancy Kennedy of Nanacoke PA, and cousins Christine Hamilton of Nanacoke PA and Scott Hamilton of Scottsdale AZ.



There are no calling hours and a memorial for the family will be private.  At a later date, a celebration of life will be held in Maine for friends and family.
