Obituary

Janice Marie (Goddu) Breyare of Chicopee, age 81, passed away on August 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Chicopee on January 22, 1945, to her late parents Harold and Margaret (Carr) Goddu. Jan was a lifelong resident of Chicopee and graduated from high school here. In 1981, Jan married her devoted husband, Arthur Breyare at Lake George, and they began their family. She worked until retirement as a secretary in school systems, first for the Chicopee School Department, then at the Bowie School in Westover. Jan loved spending time with her family and she adored her grandchildren. The family took many trips to the beach at Misquamicut, RI. They also loved to go camping together. She would have her grandchildren over for sleepovers where they would swim in the pool, make ice cream sundaes, and have a campfire which was well loved into their teen years. Later in life she became a bit of a traveler, taking trips to Ireland and Hawaii, and going on four cruises to destinations such as Bermuda and the Bahamas. Jan was always active, energetic, full of life, and itching to go on another cruise.

Jan was predeceased by her parents, Harold and Margaret, her son Sean McCurdy, her siblings Brian and Franny, and her grandchildren Ashley and Aaron. She is survived by her husband Arthur of Chicopee, her daughters Melanie Krodel and her husband Mark of East Longmeadow, Leslie Gardner of Chicopee, her sons Stephen McCurdy of Granby and Bryan Tawney of Shelburne Falls, her siblings Gail, Barbara, and Jimmy, her grandchildren Alyssa, Megan, Jacob, Samuel, Casey, Brooke, Isabella, Sophia, Alayna, and Olivia, her great grandchildren Jackson and Jocelyn, many nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog Dexter.
