Jeanette Madeline Martin

Jeanette M. Martin 1921-2009   Jeanette Madeline (Buffington) Martin, 88, of Chicopee, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2009.  Born in Ware, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Hendrick) Buffington.  Jeanette was a resident of Chicopee for over (25) years.  She had also resided in East Longmeadow and in Danvers, MA. Jeanette was a retired assistant underwriter for the former Monarch Life Insurance Co. of Springfield. She was a member of the East Longmeadow United Methodist Church and was a choir member for several years.  She previously was a member of the Danvers United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school.  Jeanette possessed a love for singing and was a member of the Sweet Adeline Barbershop Singing Group of West Springfield for (15) years.  She was a member of the Chicopee Council on Aging and Senior Citizens Club and participated as a senior exercise instructor for several years.  She also participated in Chicopee civic affairs as a poll worker.  Jeanette leaves a son, Thomas P. Martin and his fiancée Sue Grubert of Westfield; a daughter, Gail J. Ketchum and her husband David of Springfield; a brother, Herbert Buffington and his wife Shirley of East Longmeadow; a sister, Marion Mallett of Agawam and (4) grandchildren, Tamar Ketchum, Adam Ketchum, Naomi McClain and Hannah Ketchum.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 in the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee at 11 a.m.  Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial will be in Hillcrest Park Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association MA/NH Chapter 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
