John Francis "Shin" Moran (1917 - 2004) Chicopee- John F. "Shin" Moran, 87, of this city, beloved husband for 54 years to the former Dorothy B. Gunnison, died September 27,2004 at the Holyoke Soldier's Home. Born in Chicopee Falls, he was the son of the late Dennis and Hannah (Quinn) Moran. "Shin" attended and graduated from St. Patrick's School, and Chicopee High School. He received an honorable discharge after courageously serving his country from 1941 until 1945, from the U.S. Navy. From 1945 until his retirement in 1974, "Shin" was employed by the City of Chicopee as a Policeman. Following his retirement, he worked for the National Seashore, on Cape Cod. He was a founding member of the Oregon Sportsmen Club; belonged to the Tiger?s Club, the V.F.W. Police Assoc., and was a Parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, Chicopee. Besides his wife, he leaves a special family: Michael E. Sullivan of East Longmeadow, Patrick E. Sullivan of Moses Lake, Washington, Margaret Cain of Marshfield, Mass., Moira Dudek of Sacramento, California, Catherine Pierce of St. Maries, Idaho, a sister Ann Denis of Springfield, and many nieces and nephews. The family extends a special thank you to the doctors and staff at the Holyoke Soldiers Home for their excellent care given to "Shin" during his stay at the facility. "Shin's" funeral will be held on Thursday (Sept. 30th) beginning at 10:00 AM from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial, celebrated at 11:00 AM in St. Patrick's Church, 319 Broadway, Chicopee. His burial with full military honor will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 1:00PM. His calling hours will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
