John L. Parent

CHICOPEE- John L. Parent, 92, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Willimansett Nursing Home-East. He was born in Holyoke on August 27, 1922, a son of the late Louis J. and Alda (Surprenant) Parent. John was a WWII U.S. Merchant Marine veteran serving from 1943-1948. He retired from the Springfield Armory as a Stationary Fireman. John was a communicant of the former St. George Church, Chicopee, and a former member of the Chicopee Tiger A.C. He loved working on cars. John is survived by a brother, Gerard Parent and his wife Patricia of Chicopee; four sisters, Juliette Quenneville and her husband Gerry of South Hadley, Sr. Alice Parent of Marlborough, Cecile Laughman of Chicopee, and Marcelle ''Marcy" Parent of New York; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by four sisters, Theresa Soucy, Claire Landry, Leona Rivest, and Estelle Kindness. A funeral home service will be held on Friday, September 19th at 11 a.m. at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St. Chicopee, with Rites of Committal to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman St. South Hadley. John's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 18th from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
