John L. Parks1918 - 2016West Springfield - John L. Parks, 98, of Springfield passed away on Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at Wingate at West Springfield. Born In Nebraska on February 23rd, 1918, he was the son of the late Sedwick and Gladys (Peterson) Parks. John graduated from Ashland High School in Nebraska and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the former Chicopee Falls United Methodist Church. John was also a member of the Ludlow Fish and Game and Easthampton Fish and Game Clubs, Chicopee Elks, and a lifetime member of the American Amateur Trap Shooting Association. He was an avid shooter. He was a chef at the former Sheraton Hotel in Springfield, the Blue Eagle Restaurant, American International College, and retired from the MacDuffie School for Girls. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Gladys M. (Gushue) Parks in 2000. John leaves his sister, Barbara Nowich of Kansas and his niece, Deborah Boucher, her husband Robert Boucher, and their daughter Marcil Boucher of West Springfield.  Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 9th 2016 from 4-6p.m. with military honors at 6pm at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee.  Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's memory to:  Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA 01104 or to a charity of one's choice.
