SPRINGFIELD-Josefina Josie Ortiz, 57, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday April 25, 2006 at home. She was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, on March 19, 1949 a daughter of the late Gonzalo and Eugenia (Arroyo) Ortiz, Sr. Josie was employed at Baystate Medical Center in the pediatric department for ten years, and had worked previously at Ring Nursing Home, Heritage Hall, and as a private duty nurse. She attended New York schools, and attended International Correspondent School (ICS), in Scranton, PA, and also attended Training for Nurses Aide at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Agawam. Josie enjoyed music, TV, and dancing, but will be remembered most for being the pillar of strength and the knowledge and love to all that had the honor of meeting her. She is survived by her children; Jacqueline Conde of Indian Orchard, Daniel Mercado of Springfield, Ramiro Conde of Canandaigua, NY, a brother; Gonzalo Dino Ortiz, Jr., of Holyoke, two sisters; Julie Robles and her husband Edwin of Queens, NY, and Evelyn Ortiz and her husband Luis of South Carolina, eight grandchildren; Shavon, Daniel III, Tatianna, Jenika, Bryana, Sasha, Sheila, and Dylan James, and many nieces and nephews. Josie was predeceased by a brother; Andino A. Ortiz. Funeral services will begin on Friday April 28th at 9:15 a.m. at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., both in Chicopee, with Rites of Committal to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay St., Springfield. Josie's family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday (this evening) April 27th from 4-8 p.m. Because of the love that Josie had for the children that she cared for, memorial contributions may be made in Josie's memory to the Baystate Medical Center Pediatric Unit, 759 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01199.
