Joseph A. Vassallo, Jr. 1949 - 2004 CHICOPEE - Joseph A. Vassallo, Jr., 55, of 200 Montgomery St., died Monday in Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton. Born in Ossining, NY, he had been a resident here for the past 12 years. Joseph was a former employee of the Metro North Railroad in Croton on the Hudson, NY. A decorated Army veteran of the Viet Nam War, Joseph participated in combat during the Tet Offensive and was awarded the Silver Star among other medals. He was a life member of the Disabled Veterans Assoc., the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Assoc., and VFW Post 5197 of Croton on the Hudson, NY. Joseph leaves his wife, the former Candace Cook, stepsons Aaron Lolos and Paul Lolos, both of Chicopee, sisters Susan Vassallo of Yonkers, NY, and Joann Vassallo of Seattle WA, and a nephew Michael Vassallo of Seattle. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Rebecca Lolos in 1987. Funeral Friday at 9AM at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, followed by a mass at 10 AM in St. Patrick's Church, 319 Broadway, Chicopee. Burial in the Massachusetts Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Agawam. Visiting hours Thursday 6-9 PM.
