Joseph A. Wallas 1918 - 2005 Joseph Anthony Walas, 87, a lifelong resident of this city, passed from this life Tuesday December 27th, at a local nursing facility. Joseph was born here in Chicopee to the late Anthony and Mary (Nadza) Walas, was a 1936 graduate of the Chicopee Trade School, and worked from 1939 until his retirement in 1982 as a specialist at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. He served his country proudly during World War II in the United States Army, serving in the Company "B" 41st Armored Infantry Battalion. Prior to working at Pratt and Whitney, he had worked as a truck driver at the Quabbin Reservoir during its construction. Joseph was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the Tiger A.C. of Chicopee Falls for 30 years, and the I.A.M. Local Chapter. Joseph leaves his beloved wife of 65 years, Lillian (Ogrodnik) Walas. He also leaves his loving children, David J. Walas of Tega Cay, SC, Caroline A. Libby of Lewiston, ME, Mary Hatch of Granby, Christina M. Walas of Chicopee, and two caring sisters, Stelle Hubach of West Springfield, Sophie Kalita of Chicopee, and six cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Sally Lesniak and Helen Walas. The funeral will be held Saturday morning at 8:30a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, with the Liturgy of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 in St. Patrick's Church. The interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery.
