Lorie S. Avery                                                              1969-2007 Chicopee - Lorie S. Avery 37, of Chicopee died Saturday, January 13, 2007. She was a loving mother and a committed educator whose passion for her children and her students was matched only by her passion for life. Her positive energy and larger than life personality brought joy and comfort to family and friends and to the elementary school special needs students to whom she had devoted her career. Her children will never forget her sarcastic wit or her firm but loving guidance. Their mother's fondness for the Boston Red Sox, Cheez-its, and shopping will also bring smiles for years to come. A paraprofessional in the Chicopee school system, Lorie had graduated from Holyoke Community College and was near completion of her Bachelor's degree at the Elms College. She was an excellent student who passed her teacher certification exam before even completing her college course work. Lorie leaves more friends than one could count, her three children, Joshua, 18, Liticia, 16, & Lyssa, 13, and her husband of 18 years Jon Avery of Chicopee. She also leaves her mother, Kathleen Niemiec of Chicopee and two brothers and a sister, John Skorupski of Chicopee, Lawrence Skorupski of Virginia, and Dorothy Kenney of Florida. She leaves a great aunt Nellie Delongchamp as well. Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 19, 2007 at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, MA from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. A remembrance service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at 10:00am with burial and Rights of Committal to follow in St Stanislaus Cemetery, 800 Montgomery Street, Chicopee, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to Autism Speaks, 85 School Street, suite 100, Watertown, MA 02472.
