Lucie A. Cormier1912-2015Chicopee - Lucie Anne Cormier, 103, known to nearly all as "Memere," passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015, at Wingate at Wilbraham. Born in Windsor Mills, Quebec, on April 16, 1912, she was the middle child of 7 of Oliva and Eva (Pelletier) Lacharite. Lucie grew up in Holyoke, where her family moved when she was a young child, and attended local Catholic and public schools. She had dreams of becoming a professional dancer but had to give them up to care for her mother, who was ill. Lucie then worked in Holyoke paper mills and at Sunshine Art Studios in Springfield. Later she spent nearly two decades in the executive dining rooms of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in Springfield, retiring in 1977 as a manager. Over the years, she was a communicant at St. Joseph's Church in Springfield, St. George's Church in Chicopee, and Mary, Mother of Hope Church in Springfield. Lucie became an honorary member of the French-Canadian Club of Chicopee this year. She enjoyed playing cards, reading, crocheting, and, well into her 90s, dancing. A petite woman, Memere loved life, was strong and positive, and loved the saying "big things come in small packages."  She was predeceased by her first husband, Lionel Beaulac, her second husband, George J. Cormier, and her six siblings. Memere is survived by her three children, Bob Beaulac and his wife, Pat, of Tolland, CT., Raymond Cormier and his wife, Eileen, of Yorktown Heights, NY and Hyannis, MA, and Diane M. Scott and her husband, Richard, of Chicopee; six granddaughters, Beth Losier, Leslie Hauge, Elizabeth Zajchowski, Melissa Kopec, Danielle Cormier-Smith and Lauren Cormier Taylor; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends from the Falls View Apartments for the elderly, where she proudly lived independently for the last 31 years.
