SPRINGFIELD- Margaret "Peg" E. (Courtney) Griffin, 67, was called safely home on Friday July 21, 2006 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Peg was born in Springfield, January 27, 1939, the daughter of the late John Patrick and Mary (Ferris) Courtney. She was a graduate of Cathedral High School and attended Dean Junior College. Peg furthered her education at Springfield Technical Community College where she received her degree in Nursing. She was an area L.P.N. for many years having cared for the community at several nursing care centers including Ring Nursing Home, Pine Manor and also worked as a pool nurse retiring in 2002. Peg married James Edward Griffin in 1958 and the couple celebrated over 21 years together before his passing June 3, 1980. Peg was a hardworking lady, who instilled her intelligence, warmth, and love in all her children. Her legacy, will forever be carried on by her devoted children, James Griffin of Gardner, MA; John Griffin and his wife Kathy of East Longmeadow; Paul Griffin and Patrick Griffin both of Springfield; Ellen Kennedy of Springfield; Sheila Sanzone and her husband Anthony of San Diego, CA; Shannon Dalton of Springfield. Peg will be missed by her eleven grandchildren, whom she will always cherish and by her many special friends and extended family members who loved her. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2006 at 9 A.M. from the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee, MA 01020 followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in Holy Cross Church 221 Plumtree Rd., Springfield. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery on Fuller Rd., Chicopee. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
