Mathew Smola

Matthew R. Smola 1990-2003 Ludlow- Matthew (Matt) R. Smola, 13, of Ludlow, died Wednesday June 25th at Baystate Medical Center Children's Hospital in Springfield. Born in Springfield on March 27, 1990 the son of Robert M. and Elizabeth M. (Donahue) Smola and stepson of Mark Spirto. Matt was an 8-year student at St Joan of Arc St. George School in Chicopee where he had completed the 7th grade and was to begin the 8th grade in September. He was a communicant of St. George Church where he was an altar server, played soccer for the Chicopee Tiger A.C and was a member of The Kung Fu Academy where he had earned a Purple Belt. He also enjoyed computers, Lego's, trains (model railroading) and everything associated with Star Wars. Matt's family would like to thank all his Doctors, Nurses, Child Life Specialist, TA's and the entire staff at Baystate Medical Center Children's Hospital in helping in the care of Matthew. His Family would also like to thank the family and friends, staff and students at St. Joan of Arc St. George School and Church for their continuous love, support and prayers. Besides his parents and step-father Matt is survived by his brother Zachary and sister Jennifer Smola of Ludlow, maternal grandparents David and Lorraine Donahue of Chicopee, his best friend Jason Stasiowski and black lab Kalia. Many aunt, uncles and cousins also survive Matt. Funeral services will assemble Monday morning at 8:45 a.m. at the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. George Church with burial in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery all in Chicopee. Visiting hours are Sunday from 1-3 p.m. & 5-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Matt's memory to the Griffin's Friends P.O.
