Nelson Richard Fortier

Nelson R. Fortier 1935-2004 Ludlow-Nelson "Nellie" R. Fortier died Thursday February 26, 2004 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Springfield to the late Nelson J. and Annette (Richard) Fortier. Nelson moved to Ludlow with his wife of 47 years Elaine P. (Faust) Fortier in 1963.  He graduated from Tech High School in Springfield served in the Corps of Army Engineers during the Cold War Period. Nelson retired as foreman in 1995 from Hercules, Inc. of Chicopee, prior to his employment at Hercules he was employed at Spaulding World Wide Sports and Glendale Plastics. He also worked part time for over 17 years for Welker's Gulf Station at Cooley and Allen. Nelson was a long time member of St. John The Baptist Church of Ludlow; he also was a car buff and was a Past President of the Matador's Car Club. Besides his wife Elaine, he leaves a daughter Margaret M. Fortier-Witkop and her husband Brian, along with a granddaughter Steffie Lynne Witkop all of Monson. The family will receive friends in the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee Sunday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friends may assemble at the Tylunas Funeral Home Monday at 8:45 a.m. with a Funeral Mass being held at 10:00 a.m. in St. John The Baptist Church, Hubbard Street, Ludlow. Interment will be in the Island Pond Cemetery, Center Street, Ludlow. The family would like memorials made to St. John The Baptist Church Pastoral Center Building Fund, 181 Hubbard Street, Ludlow, MA 01056 or the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O. 96268, Washington, DC 20090-6268.
