NEW YORK-Nick Nicholas, 80, of Hamlet Woods Drive in St. James passed away peacefully on Sunday March 4, 2018 at Lourdes Specialty Hospital in New Jersey. Nick was born in Cyprus on January 1, 1938 the son of Costas and Catherine Gabriel Nicholas. He immigrated to the United States in his youth settling New York. He was educated in New York receiving his Master's Degrees in Business Administration from Baruch College of CCNY in New York City. Nick was a professor at St. Josephs College in New York and School District Business Manager on Long Island, NY. Nick served as the Director of Research & Statistics for the Maternal & Infant Research Foundation in NYC. He married his beloved wife, Catherine (Courniotes) Nicholas at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church and they celebrated 52 years of marriage this past year. Nick was very active in his community and was a communicant of Saint Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Greenlawn, NY, serving on the church parish council in various positions including past Vice President. He was a longtime supporter and executive board member of the Lions Club, the Smithtown Senior center and the AHEPA organization. Nick enjoyed gardening in his spare time, stamp and coin collecting and especially following his grandchildren's various sporting teams including hockey. He served proudly in the National Guard Reserve. He leaves his loving wife, Catherine (Courniotes) Nicholas of New York. His devoted children; Dr. Chrysanthe "Chris" Simsir and her husband Dr. Sinan Simsir of Haddonfield, NJ., Dr. Constantina "Dena" Miller and her husband Kevin Miller of Smithtown, NY and his three cherished grandchildren; Nicholas, Luke and Katerina. His dear brother, George Nicholas and  sister, Chrystalla Stamatis both of Mattituck, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins with the Nicholas and Courniotes families. Nick was sadly predeceased by his loving sister, Mary Eleftheriou.  The family invites you to join them for Funeral services for Nick on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church , 30 Grattan Street, Chicopee followed by committal services in Fairview Cemetery, Armory Drive, Chicopee. Nick will lie in state in the Church on Saturday prior to the service from 9:00 to 10 a.m.  Donations in Nick's memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Long Island, 532 Broadhollow Rd.
