Raymond J. Blais1934-2012CHICOPEE- Raymond J. Blais, a longtime Chicopee resident, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2012. He was born in Ludlow on February 18, 1934, a son of the late Ernest and Flavia (Raymond) Blais. Raymond was a communicant of the former St. Patrick's Church, Chicopee, and a member of the American Legion Post 438, Fairview. He was a U.S.M.C. veteran of the Korean Conflict. Raymond received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal with Two Stars. He completed his military career in the Massachusetts Army National Guard obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and retired after 20 years of total service. Raymond is survived by his wife, Arline R. (Leonard) Blais; two daughters, Debbie L. Cote and her husband Robert of Belchertown, and Linda M. Feldman and her husband Walt of Enfield, CT; four grandchildren, Heather Gaj and her husband Peter, Robert Cote, and Krystal and Peter Bonavita; three great-grandchildren, Madyson, Kyrsten and Noel; a brother, Robert Blais and his wife Jean of South Hadley; two sisters, Constance Sullivan of California, and Jacqueline Cislak and her husband Edward of Ludlow; and several sisters and brothers in law and nieces and nephews. Rites of Committal and military honors will be held on Thursday, July 26th at 10 a.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Raymond's family will receive relatives and friends at the gathering on Wednesday, July 25th from 4-7 p.m. at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Raymond's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
