Richard W. "Monge" Mongeau

CHICOPEE- Richard W. “Monge” Mongeau, 73, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2023. He was born in Springfield on January 29, 1949 to William and Mary (Moran) Mongeau. After graduating from Chicopee High School in 1968, Richard joined the United States Air Force, and proudly defended his country during the Vietnam War, and was discharged with the rank of Sgt. E4. Upon returning home, Richard began working at the United States Postal Service as a Review Clerk for 38 years until his retirement in 2011. Unbeknownst to many, Richard was an avid, and award-winning Ballroom dancer, garnering many trophies and 1st place wins throughout the Valley. Richard was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a 4th Degree Knight with the KOC. He was a lifetime member of the Chicopee Knights of Columbus, Council #4044. Richard was loved by many and leaves many dear friends including Deborah & Steve Klein who cared for him in his later years, Barbara Morton and many others. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, David Flynn.
