Richard Scheneeweis

Richard (Rick)  J. Schneeweis 1955-2003 Chicopee - Richard (Rick) J. Schneeweis - age 48 died peacefully at his home Monday with his family by his side. He was born in Abington,  PA February 4, 1955 the son of Rosemary (Burn) and the late Warren Schneeweis. He graduated form Waconah High School in 1973 later going on to attend class at Fitchburg State. His career in the Chicopee Fire Department started in 1979 as a firefighter, he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1987, Captain in 1991, and as a Deputy Chief in 1996. Rick was Chicopee Fire Department's -B Group' Commander. He was team Coordinator for the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services, District 4 Hazardous Materials Response Team. Member of the National Fire Protection Assoc., International Assoc. of Firefighters, Chicopee Fire Assoc. and was past secretary and treasurer of the Chicopee Fire Department Social Club. Rick also served on the Board of Directors for the Chicopee Municipal Employee Credit Union. He also was very active in the Boy Scouts Troop #404 as an assistant scoutmaster and Eagle Scout. Rick also was a licensed contractor owning and operating Rick's Construction Co. and was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Chicopee. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years Debra (LeClair) Schneeweis of Chicopee. His mother Rosemary Schneeweis of Downingtown, PA. Son David Schneeweis of Yarmouth, MA. Daughter Lynn Schneeweis of Chicopee, Two brothers Warren (Bud) Schneeweis of McLean, VA. and Dr. John Schneeweis of Sterling, MA. two sisters Mary Jane Ember of Lititz, PA and Rosemary ?Rose? Hendrickson of Gaithersburg, MD. Funeral services will assemble 8:30am Thursday at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee. Mass at 10am in St. Patrick's Church, with burial to follow in St. Rose De Lima Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Funeral Home.
