Roger D. Carpenter 1936-2003 Chicopee- Roger D. Carpenter, 67, passed into eternal life Tuesday December 16th at Holyoke Medical Center in Holyoke after a long illness. Born in Chicopee on September 5, 1936 the son of the late Rudolph N. and Blanche (Donais) Carpenter. A life long resident of Chicopee, Roger attended Chicopee schools and graduated from the former Springfield Trade High School. Roger was employed at Spaulding Sports for thirty-two years, retiring in September of 1999, and had previously worked for the former Holyoke Magazine Press. He enjoyed feeding the ducks and taking walk in Forest Park, taking walks in the Bird Sanctuary in East Longmeadow and making ceramics. Roger is survived by his step-mother of sixty years, Eloise (Williams) Carpenter of Chicopee, a brother, Rudolph Carpenter and his wife Charlotte of Chicopee, three sisters, Rita L. Roda of Indian Orchard, Mary Peltier and her husband Richard of Chicopee and Donna A. Fontaine and her husband Donald of Chicopee, and his best friend Joe Strycharz. Three Godchildren, John Roda, Cheri Lafever and Jillian Strycharz, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends, whom he loved very much, also survive Roger. Besides his parents, his brothers, Robert and Harvey Carpenter, and a sister Shirley D. Bergeron predeceased Roger. A funeral home service will be held Saturday December 20th at 10 a.m. at the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee with burial to follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St. Springfield.
