Roger A. Grondin1933-2015HATFIELD- Roger A. Grondin, 82, of Hatfield and formerly of Southwick, West Springfield, Springfield and Woonsocket, RI, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, July 28, 2015. He was born in Woonsocket, RI on June 2, 1933 a son of the late Armand and Anna (Bergeron) Grondin. Roger was educated in Woonsocket, RI and was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran obtaining the rank of Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Roger retired on June 2, 1995 from Cumberland Farms after 34 years of service as a Refrigeration Maintenance Technician. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Parish, Ludlow, and the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Springfield. Roger enjoyed bowling especially as a member of the former American Legion Post 21, Springfield. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Lise M. (Rondeau) Grondin who entered into eternal rest on June 18, 2006; and six brothers, Rene, Rosaire, Robert, Roland, Raymond, and Ronald. Roger is survived by his 12 children, Deacon Normand J. and his wife Denise of Springfield, Marcel J. and his wife Charlotte of Southwick, Jeanne M. Hobbs and her husband Dale Jr. of Panama City, FL, Gerard J. Sr. and his wife Deborah of Springfield, Cecile M. Dubowski and her husband Carl Sr. of Springfield, Rachel M. Vilakis and her husband Charlie Sr. of Blandford, Donald J. of Chicopee, Armand J. and his wife Yvonne of Ludlow, Edouard J and his wife Lisa of West Springfield, Roger J. and his wife Lynn of Hatfield, Robert J. and his wife Jenn of Feeding Hills, and Norman A. Drapeau and his wife Diana of Springfield; 22 cherished grandchildren; 16 cherished great grandchildren; four sisters, Rita Charpentier, Marie Darveau, and Pauline Ledoux and her husband Andre, all of Woonsocket, RI, and Therese Grondin and her companion Norman Arsenault of Blackstone, MA; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 4th beginning at 8:45 AM from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM by the Catholic Community of St. Elizabeth Parish in St. John the Baptist Church, 181 Hubbard St. Ludlow. Rites of Committal with military honors will follow at 1 PM in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1390 Main St. Agawam. Roger's family will receive relatives and friends at the visitation on Monday, August 3rd from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
