Roger E. Viens 1920-2010 CHICOPEE- Roger E. Viens, a life long Chicopee resident, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Falher, Alberta, Canada on August 30, 1920, a son of the late Euclid A. and Beatrice A. (Mongeau) Viens. Roger attended Chicopee Trade School, and was a WWII U.S. Marine Corp. veteran. He was employed for 42 years at the former American Bosch in Springfield and retired in 1982. After retirement, Roger was employed for Arrow Security at Brightside in West Springfield. He was a communicant of St. Rose de Lima Church and the former St. George Church, both in Chicopee. Roger was also a member and past president of the former Laurier Club and American Bosch Retirees Club. He enjoyed traveling, but received the most enjoyment when he was with his family. Roger is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Babs N. (French) Viens; two daughters, Susan M. Sauve and her husband Wallace of Westminster, VT, and Debra A. Wajda and her husband Gary of Chicopee; five grandchildren, Gary II, Daniela, Joel, Jessica, and Jaclyn; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard W. Viens of Chicopee; five sisters, Lucille Teague of Grattan, CT, Shirley Wisniowski of Chicopee, Joan Urbanski of Holyoke, Connie Frutuoso of Chicopee, and Claire Giblo of Chicopee; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Roger L. Viens in 1968; two sisters, Rita Maynard and Gloria Choate; and two brothers, Ernest and Freddie Viens. There are no visiting hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Friday, August 6th at 11 a.m. in St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., with Rites of Committal and burial to follow St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Olsen St., both in Chicopee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Roger's memory to Hospice Life Care, 113 Hampden St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
