Sophia A. Pendergast

Sophia A. Pendergast 1916-2011 CHICOPEE- Sophia "Nanny" A. (Jacowski) Pendergast, 94, was called safely home on Monday, July 4, 2011. She was born in Hudson, NY, on October 9, 1916, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (VaKovich) Jacowski. Sophia was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Church, Chicopee, and a member of the Holy Name Rosary Society. She enjoyed reading, cooking, eating out at restaurants, and loved the rose garden at Stanley Park, but she received the most enjoyment when she was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was deeply loved as a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Sophia was predeceased by her husband, John Pendergast on June 10, 1967; a granddaughter, Lisa C. Pendergast; a son-in-law, Gerald L. Benard; a brother, John Sherbin; and a sister, Susan Gyomber. She is survived to cherish her memory by her four children, John Patrick Pendergast of Chicopee, Kathleen M. Boutin and her husband Daniel Boutin of Chicopee, Jane A. Benard of Westfield, and Alice E. Fanous and her husband Dr. Nabil Fanous of West Springfield; 11 grandchildren, Sheryl Anne, Michael, Laura, Deborah, Diane, John, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Christopher, Sheila, and Lyla; and fifteen great-grandchildren, James J., Alyssa, Jeffrey, Michael, Nicole, Matthew B., Kyleigh, Quinnlyn, Patrick, James B., Joseph, Alisson, Alexa, Lana, and Matthew P.
