SPRINGFIELD-Stanley J. Walczak Jr., 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in Groton CT. Stanley was born in Ludlow, a son of the late Stanley J. Walczak and Frances M. (Piesyk) Walczak. Stan grew up in Chicopee, attending local schools and graduated from Chicopee High School. Stan enlisted in the US Army serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970. He served with the 4th Infantry Division of the US Army as a Helicopter Door gunner and served as a repairman and Instructor. Stanley received numerous commendations including two Purple Hearts, the Air Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Crewman badge and Sharpshooters badge. He was honorably discharged, returning home in 1970. He was employed by Uniroyal in Chicopee for 15 years before joining the USPS where he stayed for 23 years. Stanley was a member of the Disabled American veterans, the Vietnam Veterans of America, Westfield Chapter, serving as the President for 4 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, David Walczak, his former wife, Helen T. (Robillard) Walczak and two brothers, Melvin P. Walczak and Dr. Joseph Walczak. He leaves Betty's children; Brian Walczak (Pamela), Matthew Walczak (Cattaleeya), Melissa Santiago (Ismael), daughter-in-law Lisa Walczak, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He also leaves his siblings; Gene Walczak, Francis Walczak, Joan Lynch of GA and Marsha Sawyer of NY. and many nieces and nephews. FAMILY AND FRIENDS WILL GATHER TO REMEMBER STANLEY ON THURSDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2023 AT 2:00 P.M. AT THE MASSACHUSETTS VETERANS MEMORIAL CEMETERY, 1390 MAIN ST., AGAWAM, MA. CATHOLIC RITES OF COMMITTAL AND US ARMY HONORS FOR STANLEY WILL BE OBSERVED.
