Thaddeus Martowski                                                                 1915-2009   SPRINGFIELD- Thaddeus Martowski, 94, entered into eternal rest on Monday, November 9, 2009 at home. He was born in Ware, MA, on October 9, 1915, a son of the late Julian and Elizabeth (Mikurzewska) Martowski. Thaddeus graduated from Classical High School in 1933 and the University of Chicago in 1937. He retired after many years as a teacher at the former Feeding Hills School for Boys. After retirement, Thaddeus tutored immigrants to speak English. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield. Thaddeus was a life member of the Springfield YMCA. He enjoyed reading and thinking. Thaddeus also enjoyed squash and handball, and was the handball champion in 1949. He is survived by two nieces, Elizabeth Nowak of Chicopee, and Pauline Kantianis of Springfield; and three great-nephews, Thomas Nowak of California, and Robert and Bruce Nowak, both of Chicopee. Thaddeus was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Martowski; and two sisters, Winifred Magiera and Ann Hafkins. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 16th at 1p.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery, South St., Ware, MA. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Thaddeus' memory to the Springfield YMCA, 275 Chestnut St., Springfield, MA 01104.
