CHICOPEE- Vitorino "Victor" Frutuoso, 83, a longtime resident here was called safely home on Friday May 12, 2006. Victor was born in Alcobaca, Portugal April 21, 1923 a son of the late Antonio and Francesca Frutuoso. He was educated in Portugal and worked as a farmer before joining the armed services for his country. Victor came to the United States in 1963 and has resided in Chicopee for over 40 years. Victor was employed at Moore Drop Forge for a short time before he began his career as a mason. Victor worked for Roncari Industries of East Granby, CT for many years as a mason and later worked for Art Barber Construction of Somers, CT before his retirement in 1995 from the construction field. Victor was a member of the Local Laborers Union # 230 of Connecticut, a longtime member Portuguese American Club in Chicopee and a communicant of St. George's Church. His first wife, Maria Oliveira Paulo passed away March 4, 1974. Victor then married, Constance J. Viens and the couple have been joined in a loving marriage since 1978. In addition to his wife, Victor is survived by his son, Silvino Frutuoso of Chicopee; 3 daughters, Maria Ceu Ligeiro, Susana Frutuoso, Maria Gina Jordan all of Chicopee; a step daughter Donna Martineau of Chicopee; 4 step sons, Anthony Tortoriello of Hampden; Thomas Tortoriello of Chicopee; Mark Tortoriello of Feeding Hills; Dean Tortoriello of Springfield; a brother and sister, Arnaldo Frutuoso and Merced Frutuoso both of Portugal; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home 159 Broadway, Chicopee followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. George's Church. The burial will be at St. Rose DeLima Cemetery in Aldenville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. George's Church. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.
