Virginia Gomes

Virginia Gomes 1928-2010 CHICOPEE- Virginia (Pereira) Gomes, 82, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 23, 2010 in Birch Manor Nursing Home. She was born in Cumberland, RI, on February 4, 1928 a daughter of the late Francisco J. and Albertina (Duarte) Pereira. Virginia was a member of the former St. Patrick's Church in Chicopee, and a member of Mary, Mother of Hope Church in East Springfield. In addition to her parents, Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Abel Gomes who died on June 9, 2005. Virginia is survived by a son, David Gomes of Chicopee. Virginia will be deeply missed by all who new and loved her including her cousin, Manuel Surreira of Ludlow; her brothers-in-law, Mack Gomes of Ludlow and Tony Gomes of East Longmeadow; her nieces, Cheryl Merrill of Florida, Debbie Forcum and Linda Gomes, both of Ludlow; and many friends and neighbors. Funeral services for Virginia will be held on Wednesday, December 29th beginning at 10 a.m. from the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd, East Springfield. Rites of Committal will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fuller Rd., Chicopee. Virginia's family will receive relatives and friends at the visitation on Wednesday prior to the services from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home.
