It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Walter James Bilodeau, 78, of North Fort Myers, FL announce his passing on November 13, 2024. He was born on September 25, 1946, in Springfield, MA to Walter and Nellie (Maciolek) Bilodeau. A graduate of Chicopee Comprehensive High School in 1965, he dutifully served his country with both the United States Army and United States Air Force, achieving the rank of Staff Sargent before his retirement.
He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth Ann (Patenaude) Bilodeau, sons William and Matthew, daughters Lisa, her spouse Garry (Germain), Tamara, her spouse, and Walter’s partner in crime, Anthony (Perla), Amanda and her spouse Jean-Paul “Jay” (Desjardins). His loving grandchildren Andrew, Kyle, Makia, Jaiden, Emily, Matthew Jr., Nathan, Natalie, Lily-Rose, Jasper, Rosalie, Vivienne, Anthony Rocco, and Nico. As well as his great grandchildren Madelynn, Harper, and Peyton. He is predeceased by his father Walter, mother Nellie, brother Robert, and daughter-in-law Lora.
He married the love of his life Ruth Ann in 1966. The pair spent time traveling with the military before returning home to start a family. After his military service, he worked as a Special Police Officer with the Ludlow Police Department. He was also a Deputy Sheriff in Hampden County, as well as a valued member of the United States Postal Service.
He won many awards throughout his life for his expert marksmanship, served as President and a member of the FOE 148 in Springfield, MA and was known for donating his time and energy to many charitable organizations. He was especially proud of his time as a party clown, volunteering in haunted houses, and even more so, as one of Santa’s Helpers. He was passionate, hardworking, generous, tough, and always ready to make you laugh. Above all else, he held extreme pride and love for his children, grandchildren, and more importantly his wife of 58 years.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday November 24th from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St. Chicopee, MA. Funeral Services will commence from Tylunas Funeral Home at 8:00 A.M. on Monday November 25th with a procession at 9:15 A.M. to the Basilica of Saint Stanislaus in Chicopee, MA for a Funeral Mass. The procession will then continue to Walter’s final resting place and internment with Military Honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA.
