Yvette C. Damoulakis

March 17, 1922 — October 21, 2020

Yvette C. Damoulakis, 98, a longtime resident of Wilbraham, has passed away on October 21, 2020 at the Holyoke HealthCare Center, where she has resided for the past two years. Yvette was born on March 17, 1922 in Indian Orchard, MA, where she grew up with her mother Laura Albert and her father Michael Albert, along with her siblings, Aldore Albert, Lorraine Downing, and Eugene Albert, all pre-deceased. She was the loving wife of George Damoulakis, pre-deceased.  She is survived by her three children and their spouses/significant others: James and Wendy Damoulakis of Sarasota, FL; Thomas Damoulakis of Wilbraham and Laura Chagnon of West Springfield; and Virginia and Ted Levine of Springfield.  She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses/significant others: Marc and Samantha Damoulakis of Cleveland Heights, OH; and Joshua Damoulakis and Megan Porter of Hudson, MA.  In addition, she is survived by her great grandchildren: Stella Damoulakis of Hudson, MA; and George and Helen Damoulakis of Cleveland Heights, OH.  She is also survived by her loving nieces and their families.

In her early years, Yvette attended parochial schools in Indian Orchard and Commerce High School in Springfield.  She married George Damoulakis in 1949 and raised her family in Wilbraham, MA.  For several years, she worked for the Wilbraham Public Schools as a cafeteria worker and then supervisor in several schools.  In retirement, Yvette and George travelled extensively in their Airstream trailer and wintered in Melbourne, FL.  Following George's death in 1983, Yvette continued to spend winters in Melbourne and also became a dedicated world traveler, visiting many countries in Europe, as well as Japan, Australia, and New Zealand in her adventures. Among her other passions was playing Bingo and she always sought out opportunities to play.  She also enjoyed singing in community choruses and playing the piano.  Marrying into a Greek family, Yvette also embraced Greek cookery.  Her cookies were a treat, but the most eagerly anticipated course for every family gathering was her magnificent spanakopita. Yvette will be remembered by her family as a truly loving, gentle, and good-natured person.  She always supported her children and grandchildren in their endeavors, and she lived a long and happy life.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at  Fairview Cemetery, Chicopee, MA. at 11:00 a.m. Attendees should plan to meet at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, at 10:15 a.m. for a procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New England Hospice, 190 Old Derby St, Suite 304, Hingham, MA 02043, or via PayPal.
