CHICOPEE-Edward H. Jacot, 90, of Frontenac St. in Chicopee passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, February 21, 2018 at Holyoke Medical Center. Ed was born in Torrington, Connecticut on May 13, 1927 the son of the late Edward J. and Katherine E. (Hinze) Jacot. He was raised and educated in Holyoke and attended schools there.  He enlisted in the USMC on January 9, 1945 and was a proud member of the 6th Marine Division as a field artillery Crewman in the Occupation of North China from 1945 to 1946 and the South Pacific. He was a member of the China Marine Organization, 6th Marine Div. After being discharged he returned home in 1947 and worked for American Thread in Holyoke in the shipping Dept. Ed joined Avery Dennison (formerly National Blank Book) in Holyoke, first as an electrician and then as Maintenance Supervisor, retiring after 45 years in 1990. He married his wife, Mary Roberts on April 7, 1951. He was a communicant of Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield and had previously worshipped at St. Patrick’s Church in Chicopee. Ed’s main hobby was Rock & Mineral collecting and as an avid Lapidarist, he and Mary had traveled to all 50 US states in their search. They had also traveled extensively throughout Europe, Central America, New Zealand, Australia and Tahiti.  He was a member of numerous organizations including the Avery Dennison (National Blank Book) Old Timers Club where he served as President, Secretary and Treasurer, the Connecticut Valley Mineral Club, the Keene New Hampshire Mineral Club, the Rollin Rocks, the International Maintenance Institute, a life member of the 6th Marine Division, a life member of the China Marines Assoc., the Disabled Military Veterans, the Marine Corps League in Westfield and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Ed loved his Lapidary work, woodworking and was a “collector” of many things. In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Betty Merkel. He leaves his beloved wife of 66 years, Mary (Roberts) Jacot. He was the brother in law to Patricia and George Vaselacopoulos and James and Candice Roberts. Godfather & Uncle to Wendi Meunier. Uncle to Joanne Guiel, George G. Vaselacopoulos (his right hand man), Paige &  Michael Lawor, Joseph & Jody Merkel, David & Jean Ann Merkel, Linda & Merkel & John Stimpson and great uncle to 10 and great, great uncle to 7 nieces and nephews.  Honorary grandpa to Trevor & Travis Howe, Ray Marie Walker and Katie Josefic. Honorary uncle to Kathy & Nelson Terry and their families in Mt. Sidney, VA., Laura, Elizabeth and Vern Mundell and their spouses, Laurie Lester of Vt., Joseph D’Angelantonio and Mark Serrenho. He also leaves cousins in Switzerland, Missouri, Iowa and So. Carolina. He was a dear friend for 69 years to Freida Midura and her children & grandchildren. He joins his service buddies; Thomas Robertson USMC, Douglas Gordon USMC, Gray Mundell USN and Edward Lester US Army. He visited the Robertson family in the Shenandoah Valley every year for 50 years.   It was difficult for Ed to show how much he loved his family and friends; they meant the world to him. The family would like to thank the staff at the Holyoke Soldiers Home, 4 East and the recreation staff for the care and love they showed Ed. Calling hours for Ed will be at the Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway St., Chicopee Friday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday morning from Tylunas Funeral Home at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd., Springfield. Burial with Marine Corp honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fuller Rd., Chicopee. Donations in Ed’s memory may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home, Recreation Dept. c/0 Margaret Feyre, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, Ma. 01040
